Round Coffee Table With Storage : 10 Steps (with Pictures) - delacruzlinto1997
Introduction: Assaul Cocktail table With Storage
We built a beautiful newsworthy coffee table! This one has a sliding top so you can open it to store things inside and still use that top when it's closed like a regular tabular array. We love how simple the outside design looks, but when you peak into the inside, you can consider exactly how it's made!
We undergo a detailed set of plans hither! This comes with the templates, detail visualised instructions, and SketchUp file.
Supplies
- 1/2" MDF (for templates)
- 3/4" plyboard
- 2" dowels
- wood glue
- pin nails
- Total Boat Lust Marine Varnish https://bit.ly/2XfCraQ
Step 1: Making Templates
First, we are using the X-Chip (http://second.ly/2NtYwQm) to make templates away of MDF for those quarter circles and the tops.
Step 2: Tincture Impossible Base Template and Cut Pieces Out
While the machine was actually continual, cutting those templates, we cut the 3/4" plywood down to manageable sizes for all the work that's about to bump. Grabbing the base template, we could trace out as many equally possible onto the sheets of plywood. We really needed 28 total, so we filled up the sheets until we had that some.
Moving to the band saw, Dylan roughly cut away each piece, we wish be flush trimming them in just a narrow. To save some meter, we pre-drilled all of the holes to screw down the template to all the strips, I guess is what we could call these, when we attend flush-trim them.
Hither is our band saw : https://bit.ly/3dPb669
You stool use the code: "WOODBREW10" to get 10% bump off your order!
Tread 3: Kick Shipshape Wrong Pieces
For our router bit, we are using an Astra coated corkscrew flush-trim bit from Bits&adenylic acid;Bits (https://bit.ly/3hYAgAo). Astra coated bits are great because they grant higher speed and feed in rates, while not allowing the bit to overheat. That makes for a ace good and precise cut. So hither's where the busy make for starts, flush trimming and eventually sanding, every unvarying strip.
You can use the code "WOODBREW15" for 15% inactive your Bits&Bits purchase!
Step 4: Trace, Cut, Flush Trim Super and Hindquarters
Next high, the top and bottom. We traced, band sawed, jigsawed, and boot trimmed the upmost. For the bottom, nonetheless, we didn't have enough plywood, so we put two sheets put together, screwed the guide down and traced it, which is the same as the whirligig, we just North Korean won't follow cutting knocked out the middle. Then, we took the template off and cut the half-environ on to each one piece on the band saw, put the template rearwards on and flush trimmed it. Now, we buns glue the two bottom pieces together and start attaching the strips. The strips get glued and pin nailed to the layer below each unmatched, just all layer is alternating. In one case they were all in situ, we fitting set the top polish to clamp them in concert.
Piece the glue was drying, we sick onto qualification the another topmost, the half-traffic circle top. So, of path, trace, cut, flush trim.
Step 5: Make a Rebate in the Free-base
We need to cut a rebate into the coffee table and and then one of these days into that second top. We are using another Astra coated bit from Bits&Bits. This one is the rabbeting bit set (https://bit.ly/316rhXf) that comes with 7 different rabbet sizes, which is so squeamish. We are victimisation the 3/16" bearing, so you precisely change that impermissible and you're good to go. We put down the entire cocktail table upside down onto the router table because we need to router out the top for the sliding section to work.
Step 6: Making a Pin Point
We were having trouble with the sliding top off. Every time we wished-for to pull it closed, it would retributory come off the rail. Pushing was fine it was the pulling. We call back it was because it was a little too small, but we tried a few different methods, but the one that stuck was the dowel. We added a 1/4" dowel middle into both super, so the sliding top could move around the dowel. Worked like a charm. We also drilled out a thumb pull in into the sliding top.
So we added edge banding to the exposed sides on the tops, sanded and put finish on the in spite of appearanc before we glued the top down. We also tried the finish we are using on the sliding top side; you'll watch Sir Thomas More of the finishing here in a sec. When the uppermost glue was dry, we sanded the rest of the table and it was time for veneer. We own never used veneer ahead, and then this leave be interesting.
Step 7: Adding Veneer
With contact cementum, you put some on the veneer and so whatsoever on what you are putt it along. So, you let it get tacky before you put it connected, so give IT a few minutes. It was pretty simple to assumed. We raised the coffee table up 1/16" of an column inch, and so we unsmooth raised the veneer to the top of the table saw, where it was sitting. Then, just going around and pressing equally, good-natured of like uncomparable lifesize wipe around the thing. We didn't aim flying bubbles until the last bit, which we were so lucky and were healthy to pull IT upwardly and fix it. After that, we took an Exacto knife and cut aweigh the edges.
Step 8: Make the Legs
Once veneer was done, we could gumption the smooth round coffee table and start fashioning the legs. For the legs, we are exploitation 2" dowels, and they leave run intermediate up the side of the table. So, we marked how faraway that is and got to cutting. We used the bandsaw to cut the dowel halfway longways, and then perpendicular where we fixed. The legs and so get screwed on from the inside of the table and DONE.
Step 9: Apply Culture
For finish we did a few things. First we used Tot up Gravy holder's Lust High Gloss Shipping Varnish to build awake. This stuff is amazing, just suchlike any other Total Product, but this you let dry for about an hour or an hour in a fractional, and so you can utilize another coat! This finish shouldn't be tacky afterward an hour, but it definitely not cured however. So that means you don't have to sand in between coats and you practice 4-6 coats in 48 hours. And so after 2 coats of the high gloss, we came in with the Lust again, but in matte and this truly sealed the flock. A matte finish is ordinarily hard to come aside that's super durable and this poppycock is rock solid state. You can employ the code "WOODBREW1" to arrive 15% your monastic order at Aggregate Gravy holder! https://bit.ly/2XfCraQ
